MEET CLAY
A happily married father of 4, Clay has been in Storey County since 2008, and a full time resident since 2013. Originally brought by a real estate investment in Gold Hill, he stayed to improve performance at the Gold Hill Hotel and immediately knew that The Comstock was the right place for his family. An Eagle Scout, Clay has always been interested in community involvement and local issues.
Through is first term as commissioner, Clay has served as the Vice Chairman of the Storey County Commission. In addition to regular commissioner duties, Clay has served as the Commission's Legislative Representative, guiding and working with County staff and lobbyists to advocate for County priorities (and fighting against or improving bad legislation). He also serves as the Vice Chair of the V&T Railway Commission, as well as serving on the boards of the following organizations: Comstock Historic District, Northern Nevada Development Authority, Western Nevada Development District, The Fourth Ward School Museum and the TRI General Improvement District.
Clay is actively involved in budget oversight and strategic planning with the County. He spearheaded several initiatives, including reducing the basic and home-based in county business license fee from $75-$100 down to $25.
In addition to serving as a County Commissioner, Clay runs a small production company mostly involved in the wedding industry. He also mines cryptocurrency and has other entrepreneurial pursuits. He is active in his church and volunteers in the community in a variety of ways.
